Sir Jack and Lady Petchey gift birthday sculpture of Princess Anne to UK Youth to celebrate her work with the charity
UK Youth are elated to have been gifted a delightful, one-of-a-kind sculpture of its patron Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, by British sculptor Frances Segelman (Lady Petchey). The piece has been given to UK Youth to celebrate the Princess’ work with the charity.
The bust will be displayed at Avon Tyrrell, UK Youth’s outdoor activity centre based in the New Forest, Hampshire. Avon Tyrrell was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in July 1949, 71 years ago.
The bronze sculpture is the latest piece from Frances Segelman, who is known for her sculptures of the Royal Family. Commissioned in celebration of the Princess Royal’s 70th birthday the sculpture will also appear in the upcoming documentary ‘Anne: The Princess Royal at 70’.
Her Royal Highness has a genuine passion for improving the lives of young people and the piece has been given to UK Youth to celebrate the Princess’ work with the charity.
Her Royal Highness has been a patron of UK Youth since 2003 and makes several personal appearances each year on behalf of the organisation including attending Art for Youth London, a hugely popular art exhibition that has directly raised more than £1.5 million in funding.
Segelman is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. The artist has previously sculpted Her Majesty The Queen for the Scouts Association, with the finished sculpture being unveiled by Her Majesty and then displayed at the Scouts HQ. Similarly, Frances’s sculpture of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales was unveiled by The Prince at a 40th-anniversary garden party for the Prince’s Trust and now resides at the Prince’s Trust HQ.
Frances Segelman said “It was a great honour to sculpt Princess Anne, especially as the finished bust is being donated to UK Youth, a charity clearly important to HRH because of the support it gives young people. Having sculpted HM The Queen, it was wonderful to see the close family resemblance come through in my sculpture of Princess Anne. Regal and radiant – yet very down to earth”.
Lindsay Marsden, Director of Partnerships & Fundraising at UK Youth said “Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has been UK Youth’s Patron for more than 17 years and we’ve been continually impressed by her passion and commitment to ensuring all young people have the opportunity thrive and are empowered to contribute.
The creation of this wonderful piece of art, will take pride and place at our outdoor centre and will be seen by over 20,000 young people each year. We’re overwhelmed by the generosity of Frances Segelman, and HRH, in including us in this wonderful moment of recognition and celebration”.
